Four Stanford professors to speak about energy research at CERAWeek this week
Four Stanford University faculty members will discuss energy research – their own and/or the state of their field – at the annual energy sector conference CERAWeek from March 1 through March 5.
On Monday, Yi Cui, director of Stanford’s Precourt Institute for Energy and professor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, will discuss new horizons for energy and climate research starting at 11 a.m. PST. He will be joined by Robert Armstrong, director of thbe MIT Energy Initiative, and Kenneth B. Medlock, III, senior director, Center for Energy Studies, Rice University.
Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. to 9:20 PST, Shanhui Fan will explain how his latest advances in radiative cooling, which harvests electricity from the coldness of the universe, can be harvested on Earth for several renewable energy applications. Fan is a professor of electrical engineering.
Later Wednesday, Arun Majumdar, professor of mechanical engineering and immediate past director of the Precourt Institute, will discuss gigaton-scale solutions to getting to zero greenhouse gas emissions. Majumdar will also discuss his recent work on how to better predict weather catastrophes. He will be interviewed by Atul Arya, senior vice president and chief energy strategist, IHS Markit, which hosts CERAWeek. The session runs from 11:30 a.m. to noon PST.
On Thursday, Reinhold Dauskardt, professor of materials science an engineering, will discuss his recent work on the rapid and inexpensive manufacture of perovskite solar cells at industrial scale. His talk is from 6:15 a.m. to 6:35 PST.
